Alcoa Warrick
The Alcoa Warrick Operations, located near Newburgh in Warrick County, Indiana, has been an important part of the U.S. aluminum industry since the mid-20th century. The plant was constructed in the late 1950s and began operating in about 1960. The site contained not only a vast smelter but also a rolling mill and other facilities to manufacture aluminum for use in the food and beverage industries. It became one of the largest facilities of its kind. In 2021, Alcoa sold the rolling mill but retained the smelter. In 2025, Alcoa announced that the smelter would be closed by the end of the first quarter.
